Equatorial Air equatorial air[‚e·kwə′tȯr·ē·əl ′er] (meteorology) The air of the doldrums or the equatorial trough; distinguished somewhat vaguely from the tropical air of the trade-wind zones. Equatorial Air air masses that form in the equatorial zone or flow from it to the higher latitudes (for example, the air of the summer monsoon over the northern part of the Indian Ocean). Equatorial air is separated from tropical air by the intertropical zone of convergence or tropical front. |
