Dale, Chester

Dale, Chester

(1883–1962) banker, art collector; born in New York City. He was educated locally, worked as an office boy on Wall Street, and studied until he became a member of the New York Stock Exchange (1918). He became a wealthy man, specializing in utility bonds. With his first wife, Maud Murray Thompson Dale (1875–1953), he collected American and French art. He was a trustee of many museums and donated the bulk of their collection to the National Gallery.
