Flinders a river in northern Australia. The Flinders originates on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range and empties in two branches into the Gulf of Carpentaria. It is 830 km long and drains an area of 108,000 sq km. The mean flow rate is 16 cu m per sec. High water occurs from January to March; low water occurs from June to October, when all but the lower course of the river dries up.
