Pravda Buriatii

 

(Pravda of Buriatia), a Russian-language newspaper of the Buriat ASSR, published in Ulan-Ude six times a week. The first issue appeared on June 7, 1918, in Verkhneudinsk (now Ulan-Ude), as the Vestnik Sovetov Pribaikal’ia (Bulletin of the Soviets of the Baikal Region), but the newspaper closed down on Aug. 18, 1918, just before the White Guards and Czech troops entered Verkhneudinsk. After the formation of the Buriat-Mongolian ASSR, the newspaper was revived as the Buriat-Mongol’skaia pravda (Buriat-Mongolian Pravda) on Sept. 4, 1923. It acquired its present name in July 1958. Circulation, 108,000 (1974).
