Correctional Labor Institution
Correctional Labor Institution
in the USSR a state body charged with carrying out punishment in the form of deprivation of freedom. The Basic Principles of Correctional Labor Legislation of the USSR provide for three types of correctional labor institutions: correctional labor colonies, prisons, and educational labor colonies. Persons of full legal age who have been sentenced to deprivation of freedom serve the term of punishment in a corrective labor colony or a prison; minors up to the age of 18 years are sent to an educational labor colony. The type of correctional labor institution in which a convict must serve his term of punishment is specified in the sentence of the court.
