direct-writing recorder direct-writing recorder[də¦rekt ¦wrīd·iŋ ri′kōrd·ər] (engineering) A recorder in which the permanent record of varying electrical quantities or signals is made on paper, directly by a pen attached to the moving coil of a galvanometer or indirectly by a pen moved by some form of motor under control of the galvanometer. Also known as mechanical oscillograph. |
