Georgii Daneliia
Daneliia, Georgii Nikolaevich
Born Aug. 25, 1930, in Tbilisi. Soviet film director. Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR (1965) and People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1974).
Daneliia graduated from the Moscow Institute of Architecture in 1955 and worked as an architect. In 1958 he enrolled in the Advanced Directing Courses. Together with I. V. Talan-kin he directed the film Serezha (1960) based on V. F. Pano-va’s work of the same name. It won several awards, including the Crystal Globe Grand Prize at the 12th International Film Festival at Karlovy Vary. He also directed the films Road to the Mooring (1962) and Thirty-three (1965). His work is marked by gentle humor, lyricism, and a poetic style. Among his works is the film I Walk Through Moscow (1964). In 1969 he directed the musical comedy Don’t Be Sad, which was filmed in color.
