quality circle

Quality Circle

A voluntary group of employees who discuss goings-on at work and present potential solutions to management. Members of the group may elect a chairman, or managers may appoint one. A quality circle exists to improve efficiency and productivity in the workplace, and consists of employee input so managers can receive feedback from the persons actually making the products. Quality circles originated in Japan and have met with some success there and in India. They have not worked as well in the United States.
