Ugam Range
Ugam Range
a mountain range in the western Tien-Shan system, along the border between the Kazakh SSR and Uzbek SSR. Extending in a southesterly direction from the Talas Alatau, the Ugam Range is about 100 km long and rises to an elevation of 4,238 m. It is composed mainly of sedimentary rocks, including limestones, with granitoid intrusions; karstic formations are widespread. The slopes are covered with ephemeroid (subtropical) semidesert and steppe vegetation. There are hardwood forests in the valleys and meadow steppes and alpine meadows in the high-mountain areas.
