South Equatorial CurrentSouth Equatorial Current[′sau̇th ‚ek·wə′tȯr·ē·əl ′kə·rənt]South Equatorial Currenta warm surface current that flows east to west in the southern tropical latitudes of the world ocean. The South Equatorial Current originates as a result of the action of the trade winds. In the Pacific Ocean it is a continuation of the Peru (Humboldt) Current; in the Atlantic Ocean, of the Benguela Current; and in the Indian Ocean, of the West Australian Current. As these currents approach the equator and are deflected to the west, they become the South Equatorial Current. South Equatorial Current
