(po͞oläng`gē), river, c.200 mi (320 km) long, rising in the mountains of N Mindanao, the Philippines, and flowing SW to Liguasan Marsh. As the Mindanao River, it flows NW to Illana Bay at Cotabato. It drains a rich rice-growing area.Pulangi

It originates in the mountains of the northern section of the island. The upper course and middle course flow in a deep valley overgrown with subequatorial forests. The lower course crosses a vast swampy plain. The Pulangi empties into Illana Bay of the Celebes Sea, forming a delta. The water level is high throughout the year; the lower course is navigable. The city of Cotabato is located near the mouth of the Pulangi.
