Society of Moscow Artists
Society of Moscow Artists
a society of artists founded in 1928. It included former members of the groups Moscow Painters, Makovets, and Genesis. The artists, who worked with Soviet subject matter, included A. V. Kuprin, A. V. Lentulov, V. V. Rozhdestvenskii, R. R. Fal’k, A. A. Os-merkin, A. V. Shevchenko, N. A. Udal’tsova, A. V. Fonvizin, A. D. Drevin, N. P. Krymov, V. F. Ryndin, N. M. Chernyshev, I. E. Grabar’, and S. V. Gerasimov. They tried to convey the material diversity of the world by organically uniting color and form and by combining bold, energetic brushstroke and chiaroscuro. In 1931 several members left the society to join the Association of Artists of the Revolution (AKhR), and, as a result, the organization broke up. The society had studios and organized two exhibitions, one in 1928 and the other in 1929. The group issued its manifesto in 1928.
