TSSK1B

TSSK1B

A gene on chromosome 5q22.2 that encodes a testis-specific serine/threonine-protein kinase required during spermatid development. TSSK1B is involved in the late stages of spermatogenesis, during the reconstruction of the cytoplasm, and is required for the transformation of a ring-shaped structure around the base of the flagellum originating from the chromatoid body; it interacts with TSSK2. It has been proposed as a target for male contraception or/and intra-vaginal spermicides.
