Ubsu-Nur

(also Ubsa), a closed lake, most of which is in the northwestern part of the Mongolian People’s Republic; the northeastern end of the lake is in the Tuva ASSR. The Ubsu-Nur is located in the Ubsu-Nur Basin at an elevation of 753 m. With an area of 3,350 sq km, it is the largest lake in the Mongolian People’s Republic. It is the remains of an ancient body of water with an area of about 16,000 sq km. The shores of the lake are mainly flat, and they are swampy in places, with sections of solonchaks, sands, and reed thickets. The water has a mineral content of about 19 g per liter. The Tes and Nariin-Gol rivers empty into Lake Ubsu-Nur.
