Tsaadjin Bichig

Tsaadjin Bichig

(Great Code), a code of Mongol-Oirat law dating from 1640. The Tsaadjin Bichig was adopted in Tarbagatai in the Oirat (Dzungarian) Khanate at a congress of khans, princes, and Lamaist feudal lords from Khalkha, Koko Nor, Dzungaria, and Kalmykia. The code contains approximately 160 articles, some of which reaffirmed political agreements between feudal lords concerning the cessation of internecine strife and the lords’ unification against Manchu aggression; other articles established the privileges of the secular and Lamaist feudal lords and fixed the duties of the serf population.
