Salvelinus Leucomaenis

 

Sakhalin char (in Russian, kundzha), a fish of the family Salmonidae. The back is dark; the abdomen, light and silvery. The sides are brownish with large light spots. The body length is 40–50 cm, the weight, about 1 kg. Salvelinus leucomaenis is distributed in the basins of the Bering, Okhotsk, and Japan seas. It reproduces in rivers in August and September. It feeds mainly on small fish, shrimp, and the larger larvae of aquatic insects. It is recovered in small numbers during commercial fishing for Far Eastern salmon.
