Sal’sk
a city (since 1926) under oblast jurisdiction and administrative center of Sal’sk Raion, Rostov Oblast, RSFSR. Located on the Srednii Egorlyk River (Don basin). Junction of railroad lines to Rostov-on-Don, Tikhoretsk, and Volgograd. Population, 55,000(1975).
Sal’sk has plants producing forging and pressing equipment, mixed feeds, and reinforced-concrete items, and also an automotive-repair plant, a brickyard, a winery, a cannery, and a milk plant. There are factories producing furs, textiles and haberdashery, garments, and footwear, furniture and milling combines, a meat- and poultry-packing plant; and railroad and motor-vehicle transport enterprises. A branch of the Rostov Medical School is in Sal’sk. The city has three people’s theaters.
