Sait Faik Abasiyanik

Born 1907 in Adapazan; died May 11, 1954, in Istanbul. Turkish writer.

Sait Faik Abasiyanik, a graduate of the literature faculty of the University of Istanbul, also studied in Switzerland (1931) and France (1931–35). He subsequently was a Turkish-language teacher. His work was first published in 1936.

Sait Faik Abasiyanik is the author of the short-story anthologies Samevar (1936), The Superfluous Man (1948), A Cloud in the Sky (1951), At the Reservoir (1952), The Last Birds (1952), and Not Very Sweet (1954). He also wrote the novels The Mover of the Circle of Life (1944) and The Search for the Lost One (1953). In both his prose and poetry (the anthology The Time for Love Has Come, 1953), he carefully analyzes the inner world of “the little man.” His works, which are realistic with impressionist overtones, have influenced the development of the short-story genre in modern Turkish literature.
