Permindur Permendur

Permindur (Permendur)

an alloy that contains iron and 48 to 50 percent cobalt, usually with an additive of up to 2 percent vanadium. Permindur, which is classified as a soft-magnetic material, is characterized by a high saturation magnetization and an increased magnetic permeability μ at high magnetic flux densities. It was developed in the USA in the late 1920’s. Compared with iron and electric steel, Permindur has higher values of μ in magnetic fields that exceed 4 amperes per cm (A/cm); it also has a higher saturation magnetization (2.40–2.45 tesla) and Curie point (980°C). In a magnetic field of 4 A/cm, the value for μ in Permindur exceeds 4,000.

Permindur is used to make electric parts, for example, pole shoes for electromagnets, rotor plates for miniature electric motors, and telephone diaphragms.
