Horseshoe Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area (Alexander County)
Location:Southern Illinois, in Alexander County, just east of IL 3, 7 miles north of Cairo.
Facilities:38 Class A campsites with electricity and showers, 40 Class B/Ecampsites with electricity only, 10 Class C campsites, 4 picnic areas,playground.
Activities:Camping, fishing, boating (10 HP limit), hunting.
Special Features:The natural features of the area are similar to those found in the DeepSouth, with bald cypress, tupelo gum, and swampcottonwood trees surrounding the lake. Horseshoe Island, HorseshoeLake, and all areas not designated for public hunting are used tomaintain the Canada goose population, and up to 150,000 geese winter atthe site each year.
