A UK term of art used in the context of GP or specialist training for a managed educational experience, consisting of a series of placements in a range of training environments offered by a range of training providers, and to be used by a number of trainees in a given specialty, which count towards the award of a Certificate of Completion of Training.The GMC approves PoTs in all specialties, including general practice, which are based on a particular geographical area, but which could be in one or more Deaneries if a programme crosses boundaries. PoTs are managed by a training programme director (TPD) or their equivalent. It is not the same as a personal programme undertaken by a particular trainee.
