The standard format for specialist-registrar training in the UK, which ended in 2006 with the implementation of the Modernising Medical Careers framework. Type-1 programmes led to the award of Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST). Type-1 specialist-registrar training posts were held by UK (medical school) graduates who had an National Training Number (NTN) or by overseas doctors who were successful in open competition and had been awarded a visiting training number (VTN).
