V.92

V.92

The last analog modem standard. Superseding V.90 and introduced in 2000, V.92 boosted the upstream data rate from 33.6 to 48 Kbps (downstream remained the same at 56 Kbps). V.92 reduced handshaking (connecting time) by remembering the previous settings negotiated when dialing the same telephone number. V.92 also supports call waiting by allowing the Internet data session to be put on hold while a voice call is taken. See modem, modem on hold and V.90.
