Rustico di Filippo
(ro͞o`stēkō dē fēlēp`pō), 13th cent. Italian poet. He was perhaps one of the first to use the Tuscan dialect in literature. Some 60 of his sonnets, most of them in a burlesque vein, are extant. He was a friend of Brunetto LatiniLatini, Brunetto, d. 1294?, Italian man of letters, a diplomat. He introduced French literature to Italy and wrote, in French, Li livres dou tresor, the first vernacular encyclopedia. It was an immediate success. Dante praised him in the Divine Comedy.
