Penhsi

 

(also Penhsihu), a city in northeastern China in the province of Liaoning. Population, 530,000 (1957).

Penhsi is located in the valley of the T’aitzuho River (Liaoho basin). Penhsi is the center of an industrial mining region rich in coal and iron and one of the main metallurgical centers of the country. (The first metallurgical plant was founded here in 1915.) Acids, fertilizers, and refractory materials are produced in connection with the metallurgical industry. The city has a thermoelectric power plant and a mining institute.
