Anomalous Osmosis

the movement of a solvent through a semipermeable membrane, regardless of the amount or direction of the differential in osmotic pressure (osmotic gradient). In anomalous osmosis the solvent moves from a solution with greater osmotic pressure to a solution with lesser osmotic pressure. Anomalous osmosis is explained by electroosmotic transport of a solvent through the capillaries permeating a membrane. Anomalous osmosis is observed in the transport of water in plant and animal tissues.
