Precambrian Geology and Geochronology, Institute of (IGGD)

a scientific research institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, organized in Leningrad in 1967 on the basis of the Laboratory of Precambrian Geology.

In 1970 it had five laboratories, for stratigraphy and tectonics, metamorphism, the study of magma, geochronology and geochemistry, and continental formations. The institute conducts research on the problems of the regularities of geological development of the earth’s crust and the distribution of useful ores in the Precambrian (stratigraphy, tectonics, metamorphism, the study of magma, geochemistry, and metallogeny) and the structure and evolution of the earth’s crust at the early stages of its development. From 1952 to 1965 the institute published Trudy laboratorii geologii dokembriia AN SSSR (Transactions of the Laboratory of Precambrian Geology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR); since 1965 it has published some collected works.
