Selon
(self-designation Mawken), a small (approximately 2,000 people) national grouping in Burma, living on the islands along the southern coast of the peninsular part of the country. Their language is a special branch of the Malayo-Polynesian languages. The majority of the Selon preserve such traditional beliefs as ancestor and nature worship, but there are also Muslims and Buddhists among them. Occupations include fishing, maritime freight handling, and pearl diving.
