Paris Institute of Astrophysics

 

(Institut d’Astrophysique), a scientific institution of the National Center of Scientific Research of France. Located in Paris, the institute was founded in 1936. It is a center of the theoretical and experimental study of stars. Its chief areas of research are the study of the neighborhoods of stars, including stellar atmospheres, and the study of the solar atmosphere and solar activity. The institute conducts its research in close cooperation with other observatories in France, particularly those at Meudon, Saint-Michel (Haute-Provence), and Pic du Midi.
