Once an anthracite coal mining center, it manufactures plastic products, processed foods, transportation equipment, filters, apparel, beverages, and steel products, and is a distribution center. Pottsville was a rallying place for the Molly MaguiresMolly Maguires, secret organization of Irish-Americans in the coal-mining districts of Pennsylvania.
