Pappas case

Pappas case

A medical tragedy that occurred in 1992, when Basile Pappas was admitted to an emergency room in the US and immediately diagnosed as having an epidural spinal abscess, a neurosurgical emergency. His doctors argued for 3 hours with the HMO for authorisation to send him to an appropriate tertiary care centre, during which time Mr Pappas became permanently paraplegic.
