PAPNET

An automated neural net cervical smear test used to supplement smear examination by human pathologists. PAPNET checks every cell, comparing it with a normal standard. It then selects the 128 that are most abnormal and displays them on a monitor where they are checked by an expert. The system has been able to identify abnormal cells previously reported as normal up to 12 years before a positive diagnosis was reached.
