Teploukhov, Sergei Aleksandrovich

 

Born Mar. 3 (15), 1888, in the village of Il’inskoe, Perm’ Province; died 1933, in Leningrad. Soviet archaeologist and Siberian scholar.

From 1920 to 1932, Teploukhov conducted research on archaeological remains of various periods in the basin of the upper Enisei (in the regions of Khakassia and Tuva) and in Kirghizia (in the basin of Lake Issyk-Kul’). He also took part in the excavation of the Noin-Ul burial ground in Mongolia in 1924. Teploukhov devised the first classification of the archaeological cultures of Southern Siberia.
