Thomson formula

[′täm·sən ‚fȯr·myə·lə] (electromagnetism) The formula for the intensity of scattered electromagnetic radiation in Thomson scattering as a function of the scattering angle φ; the intensity is proportional to 1 + cos2φ. A formula for the period of oscillation of a current when a capacitor is discharged. Also known as Kelvin's formula.
