Ox Pen

Ox Pen

a structure, located preferably in a high, dry place, in which oxen are kept. Ox pens have facilities for the storage and preparation of feed. Stalls are usually arranged in two rows, with passages of 1 m for feeding and of 1.5 m for the collection of manure. Ox pens must have good ventilation, normal lighting, and a winter temperature of between 4° C and 10° C. With the construction in sovkhozes and kolkhozes of large, mechanized stockyards, the ox pen is losing its significance.
