Polish-Rumanian Treaty of 1949 on Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance

a treaty signed on January 26 in Bucharest by J. Cyrankiewicz, chairman of the Council of Ministers, and Z. Modzelewski, minister of foreign affairs, for Poland, and by P. Groza, chairman of the Council of Ministers, and A. Pauker, minister of foreign affairs, for Rumania. It was concluded for a period of 20 years.

The parties pledged to undertake all necessary measures to eliminate any threat of aggression from Germany or any state uniting with it, to participate in all international actions aimed at safeguarding peace and security, to render each other military aid and any other form of assistance in the event of aggression against them, to not participate in allianees or actions directed against the other contracting party, and to develop and strengthen cooperation and economic and cultural relations.
