Sirácky, Andrej
Born Dec. 9, 1900, in Petrovac, Yugoslavia. Czechoslovak philosopher and sociologist. Academician of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (1972). Academician of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (1955).
Sirácky was rector of the J. A. Komensky University in Bratislava from 1953 to 1956. From 1955 to 1961 he was chairman of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Sirácky served as editor in chief of the journal Sociologia from 1969 to 1972 and was named editor in chief of the journal Filozófia in 1973. From 1975 to 1978 he was director of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. His principal works have dealt with historical materialism, ethics, and sociology.
Sirácky became a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1976.
