Abdul-Rahman Khazar

(pseudonym of Abdul-Rahman Sharafkandi). Born June 9, 1920, in the village of Sharafkandi, near the town of Mehabad, Iranian Kurdistan. Kurdish poet.

Khazar was born into a teacher’s family. He studied philosophy and logic, and was persecuted for his political activities. His works began to be published in 1945. Khazar is the author of the verse collections Alakok (1945), Tales of Sheep’s Heads (1957), and All a Little at a Time (1959). His poems I Swear (1959) and Shoulder to Shoulder (1959) have been translated into Russian. In his writings Abdul-Rahman Khazar calls for a struggle for peace, for the rights of the Kurdish people, and for strengthening the Iraqi republic and Arab-Kurdish friendship. He translates works from Azerbaijani, Arabic, and Persian.
