Mnogopole

(literally “many fields”), the obsolete name for a system of crop rotation involving seven, eight, or more fields. In prerevolutionary Russia as well as in the Soviet countryside before collectivization, this multiple-field crop rotation system was in contrast to the backward three-field fallow system typical of individual peasant households. The transition to the multiple-field system, which usually involved introducing row crops and perennial grasses into the rotation, was a progressive step.
