Otiorrhynchus

 

a genus of beetles of the family Curcu-lionidae. The Otiorrhynchus have a brown or black body that is 3–15 mm in length and often covered with scales having a metallic luster. The pronotum is rounded, and the elytra are oval and grown together. There are no wings, and the proboscis is short and thick. There are more the 1,000 species, distributed in Europe and Asia. Approximately 400 species occur in the USSR. Some species are crop and forest pests, for example, O. asphaltinus, O. turca, O. lingustici, and O. aurosparsus.
