Faiziev, Latif Abidovich
Born Jan. 2, 1929, in Tashkent. Soviet film director. Honored Art Worker of the Uzbek SSR (1964).
Faiziev studied and acted in the Tashkent Theater for Young Audiences from 1941 to 1945. In 1951 he graduated from the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography and began working at the Uzbekfil’m studio. His works include The Fall of the Emirate (1955, in collaboration with V. P. Basov), On Lenin’s Permit (1958), Tiny Bird (1961), Star of Ulug Beg (1965), Born in a Storm (1966), and Sons of the Fatherland (1968). He also directed the ballet films Legend of the Old Fortress (1970) and Miniatures Brought to Life (1971). Faiziev directed the film Sunrise Over the Ganges in collaboration with Indian cinematographers at the Tadzhikfil’m studio in 1975. He served as first secretary of the Cinematographers’ Union of the Uzbek SSR from 1958 to 1967.
Faiziev has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and various medals.
