magic angle spinning

magic angle spinning

An MRI technique in which rigid systems averaging of chemical shift anisotropy (a line) or “resolution” method is accomplished mechanically. MAS can, in principle and occasionally in practice, be used to eliminate another important line-broadening interaction, that of the magnetic dipole–dipole interaction between pairs of nuclear magnetic moments. MAS is accomplished mechanically by rapid spinning of the sample about an axis, making an angle of 54º 44’ (cos 1 √1/3) with Ho.
