Mounana

a mining center in Gabon, in the Haut-Ogooué region; it has uranium ore deposits (reserves of more than 15,000 tons of metallic uranium) in Precambrian deposits. The ore bed is 150 m long and up to 20–25 m thick in places. Exploitation of the deposit was begun in 1961 by the Compagnie de Mines d’Uranium de Franceville (French capital). Approximately 400 tons of uranium ore is mined per year (in terms of the metal content in concentrates).
