Mottelson, Ben Roy
(Benjamin R. Mottelson). Born July 9, 1926, in Chicago. Danish physicist.
Mottelson studied at Harvard University and at Purdue University in Indiana. He emigrated to Denmark in 1951, taking Danish citizenship in 1973. In 1957 he became a professor at the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Atomic Physics (NORDITA).
Mottelson’s main works deal with nuclear physics. Together with A. Bohr, Mottelson developed the collective model of the nucleus.
Mottelson received a Nobel Prize in 1975.
