optical parallax[′äp·tə·kəl ′par·ə‚laks] (optics) A fault in an optical measuring instrument in which the image being observed does not lie in the plane of the wires or marks used to make the measurement, so that motion of the observer's eye causes displacement of the image relative to these wires or marks. |
