Langevin-Debye formula Langevin-Debye formula[länzh·van də′bī ‚fȯr·myə·lə] (statistical mechanics) A formula for the polarizability of a dielectric material or the paramagnetic susceptibility of a magnetic material, in which these quantities are the sum of a temperature-independent contribution and a contribution arising from the partial orientation of permanent electric or magnetic dipole moments which varies inversely with the temperature. Also known as Langevin-Debye law. |
