释义 | Bibos
BibosBibosa genus (subgenus) of large ruminants of the family Bovidae. The genus is related to the true oxen and the buffalo. The shoulders are hunched, and the forehead is broad and flat. The males and the females have horns that are slightly flattened and directed toward the sides and the back. The coloration ranges from reddish brown to dark brown, almost black. Unlike other oxen, these animals have horns with white lower parts. Bibos are common in India and Indochina and on the Sunda Islands. The animals inhabit wooded slopes with plains and stay in small herds. They feed primarily on grasses and sometimes on leaves. Females bear one calf each year. The number of Bibos is decreasing, and some species are very rare. The genus includes three species—the gaur (its domesticated form is the gayal), the banteng (its domesticated form are the Bali cattle), and the kouprey. REFERENCEZhizn’ zhivotnykh, vol. 6.
