mesosiderite (mess-ŏ-sid -ĕ-rÿt, mee-sobreve;-) See stony-iron meteorite.Mesosiderite a rare type of stony-iron meteorite. Mesosiderites generally contain 45 percent nickel-iron (as inclusions in the stony mass), 30 percent hypersthene, 16.4 percent anorthite, and small quantities of several other minerals. mesosiderite[¦me·zō′sīd·ə‚rīt] (geology) A stony-iron meteorite containing about equal amounts of silicates and nickel-iron, with considerable troilite. Also known as grahamite. |
