Murina

a genus of mammals of the suborder Mirochiroptera. The body measures 3–6 cm in length, and thick fur covers not only the body but also the upper side of the interfemoral membrane. The nostrils open into short, leathery tubes. There are approximately ten species, distributed in East and South Asia and New Guinea. The USSR has two species, the great tube-nosed bat (M. leucogaster), which is found in southern Siberia and the Far East, and the little tube-nosed bat (M. aurata), found only in Primor’e Krai and on Sakhalin Island. The bats live in caves, tree hollows, and the tops of dense shrubs. Their flight is slow and extremely maneuverable. Members of the genus feed on insects, which they gather from leaves and grasses or catch in flight. The female bears one offspring.
