LumpenusLumpenusa genus of fishes of the subfamily Lumpenidae of the family Stichaeidae. These fishes measure up to 50 cm long. There are five species, distributed in the northern parts of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans and in the Arctic Ocean. These bottom marine fishes live beneath the tidemark at depths of 200 m or greater and prefer silty soils and low water temperature. They feed primarily on benthic invertebrates. All five species are found in the seas of the USSR, the most common being the slender eelblenny (Lumpenus fabricii snakeblenny (L. lampretaeformis and stout eelblenny (L. medius).
